Project:

Bipolar Module for Family Physicians

Overview: The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Annual Clinical Focus (ACF) is an educational initiative designed to bring members state-of-the-art clinical information on a specific area each year to assist them in providing comprehensive patient care. This year the clinical focus is on the relationship/role of genomics in a specific clinical condition and/or disease.

Each program begins with a question about the role genomics plays in physician's practice specific to the clinical topic area, includes a case study with physician/patient vignettes, a Web tour of physician and patient resources and a clinical quiz. Each module also includes information and resources pertaining to practical information, genomic principles, pharmacogenomics, cultural sensitivity, genetic testing and ethical, legal and social issues.

The Learning Goal: At the completion of this course experience, the learner will be able to communicate accurately and effectively with patients and the public about the clinical, legal, social and ethical issues involved in the burgeoning area of medical genomics, and specifically on bipolar disorder.
