Case Study:
Watch a case study of a young woman whose brother has just been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Notice how the physician takes a targeted family history and the key elements in giving a risk assessment so you can utilize these techniques in your role play and discussion.
Role Play:
You and your colleagues will role play a scenario where one of you will portray a consultand seeking advice on the risks of recurrance of mental illness if you are to have children and the other will play the physician.
The participant choosing the role of the patient should pick a psychiatric disorder and do the appropriate research to develop the patient case, complete with the family histories and pedigree to make the case authentic.
The other participant will be the physician. You will be tasked with providing the diagnosis, the risk assessment and the appropriate counseling based on the facts of the case. You should do the necessary research to treat the patient appropriately.
