Learning Objectives

At the completion of the bipolar module you will:

  • Identify the role genes and environment play in psychiatric disorders.
  • Assess current research and future directions for the diagnosis and treatment of bipolar and other psychiatric disorders.
  • Utilize family history information to inform risk assessment

Activities

Watch the Case Study -- of a young woman whose brother has just been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. To view this case study you must have the Flash 9 Player. If do not have the flash player you can download it here. Helpful hints for viewing this module:

  • Advance through the screens using the next and previous arrows located at the bottom of the screen.
  • A video controller has been provided so you may review or pause the video at your convenience.
  • Some screens provide a link for more detailed information on a given topic. If you choose this link a new window will open. When you have finished exploring more on the topic, simply close the window and return to the main presentation.

Participate in an online collaborative role playing activity. You and a colleague will role play a scenario similar to the one presented in the case study. This activity is designed to allow you to apply important concepts you discovered in the case study.

Assessment

Post-test -- Complete your post-test self assessment.

Practice-based Quality Improvement Project -- Receive up to 20 CME credits for participating in this project. Receive a pre-audit report comparing your baseline data to peers as well as a report comparing your baseline data to your post-audit data.
