Michael J. Scotti Jr. Award
For Contributions to Genetics Education for Health Professionals
Origin
NCHPEG initiated this award in 2004 to honor the contributions of the late Michael J. Scotti, Jr., MD, a founding member of NCHPEG's Board of Directors.
Criteria
The recipient must have made significant and enduring contributions to genetics education for health professionals.
The recipient's efforts can have been directed at all health professionals, at a specific profession, or a group of related professions.
The recipient must have worked with NCHPEG's programs or within NCHPEG's organizational structure to carry out his or her educational activities, although NCHPEG-related efforts do not have to constitute the majority of the recipient's activities.
Eligibility and exclusions
All persons who meet the above criteria are eligible to receive the Scotti award, with the exception of sitting members of the NCHPEG Board of Directors and active members of the NCHPEG staff.
Procedures
The selection committee for each year's award will comprise NCHPEG's executive director, at least one previous award winner, and one member of the NCHPEG Board of Directors.
NCHPEG's executive director will solicit nominations from qualified NCHPEG representatives via a blast e-mail and an announcement on the NCHPEG website. The nomination will consist of a one-page form and must be accompanied by three letters of support. The selection committee will review the nominations, arrive at its recommendation, and forward that recommendation to the board for final approval in advance of NCHPEG's annual meeting.
The chairperson of the NCHPEG Board of Directors or a member of the selection committee will present the award at NCHPEG's annual meeting. The award consists of a plaque that acknowledges the recipient's contributions to genetics education for health professionals.
