Targeted Genetics Education for 2011 Call for Proposals

E-mail Print

NCHPEG invites proposals from its dues-paying member organizations to collaborate on a one-year project to develop a genetics education tool for a targeted health-care discipline, a group of related disciplines, or a health-care facility or institution.

A NCHPEG member organization must submit the proposal, but partnerships with non-member organizations are acceptable. The education delivery mechanism is not limited to web-based programs: it may be web-based, paper-based, a grand rounds or lecture series approach, or use a hand-held device platform, such as BlackBerry or iPhone.

Approximately $30,000 of funding for this project is provided by the National Human Genome Research Institute, the Health Resources and Services Administration, and the Office of Rare Diseases. No more than $10,000 can be used for institutional support, such as salary or overhead. The remaining funds will be managed in-house by NCHPEG and applied to content development and web programming.

Successful applicants will work closely with the NCHPEG staff, key advisors from the targeted discipline, and members of NCHPEG's content and instruction working group to develop a targeted education tool for release in 2011. With the assistance of the applicant organization, NCHPEG will attend the professional meetings of relevance to the target audience to: (1) provide additional training for educators within the selected discipline, and (2) conduct a summative evaluation of the education tool, with the participation of attendees.
