NCHPEG is an "organization of organizations" committed to a national effort to promote health professional education and access to information about advances in human genetics. NCHPEG members are an interdisciplinary group of leaders from more than 70 diverse health professional organizations, consumer and volunteer groups, government agencies, private industry, managed care organizations, and genetics professional societies. By bringing together these diverse groups to focus on the educational needs of health care professionals, NCHPEG is able to draw on the collective experience and expertise to promote genetics education in a variety of ways.
NCHPEG works to integrate genetics content into the knowledge base of health professionals and students of the health professions by developing educational tools and information resources that are accessible and useful to the target audience. We help to strengthen the connections among our member organizations to facilitate the creation of quality educational materials. NCHPEG also provides technical assistance to individuals, organizations, and health professionals who have questions about genetics or genetics education.
Technical assistance includes
- acting as a liaison to connect individuals and organizations with genetics-education resources,
- speaking to students and professionals,
- providing advice about genetics content for individuals, organizations, and publications, and
- attending professional meetings.
